How to make the hard things work well - exploration, engagement, excitement, and by pushing a few buttons.
Recently, I’ve chatted with other business owners about the importance of three things.
1. Knowing your numbers. We won’t go into this now, but let’s just say there are a lot of acronyms and any episode of Shark Tank or Dragon’s Den will give a good lesson!
2. Knowing your ideal client profile. Not just the demographics, but their hopes, dreams, needs. Their pain points. Where they consume information and how they like to interact are just a few things that help to know when planning products and marketing.
3. Having an irresistible offer.
What is an irresistible offer? This could be a money back guarantee, a free trial, a bonus that makes the investment seem a no-brainer.
For our sports business, we offer free trials for youth soccer academy- because no one loves paying a registration fee and first month or season only to find out their player would rather not be the next Messi. This is a pretty good offer.
I have a friend that owns a tech patent company. They offer a 2x guarantee payback if the patent isn’t issued. This is irresistible.
A company I recently used to check our tax set up offered a money back guarantee - they’d refund any amount that was beyond any savings found. This is irresistible as well. But…
When they didn’t find any savings, they spent a week trying to pass it to other people, then another couple of days leaving confusing voicemails, and finally let me know they’d send me a check. A check. The offer was irresistible but their system could use some improvement.
Do you have an irresistible offer?
Something that takes away the challenges in your ideal customer's mind as they consider purchasing?
Does your system support the onboarding and fulfillment of it?
If the tax review company had quickly refunded the money to the card on file without hoops, I would have been quick to share the amazing experience. Free marketing for them - which could help offset their investment. Instead, I’m now less prone to share at all and when I do, it would be with a small warning - not what any of us want for our brands.
AI tool of the week
It’s a fun one. I was able to quickly get on and off the waitlist for Manus.
My first prompt was:
“Help me make sense of this tech and where we can save money, time, or energy:
Lucid - 9.95
Fireflies - 29
Otter - 21.94 (already cancelling)
Toastmasters - 30
Apollo - 59
Desiggnr - 297 annual...”
(These were just a few* - as you all know, I love trying tools.)
Not only did Manus prepare an analysis, it provided me with a full site with timelines, what-if savings scenarios, and more. The site was only temporary, but you can get a feel for a visual analysis use case here:
The prompt
"Analyze mobile data consumption patterns across states during Thanksgiving weekend, comparing urban vs. rural usage and identifying peak times. Create heat maps showing regional variations and provide insights on streaming, social media, and gaming trends for retailers' Black Friday strategies. The final report should be visually compelling, combining clear graphics with concise data analysis.”
The result is here.
I used it to create a full industry-specific social media strategy, plan an inexpensive trip to the UK, and more. Manus takes a lot longer and may not hit all the points yet, but provides deep research with visually compelling and shareable results - something I’ve not seen in the other tools.
*I remain cautious of putting too much personal information and any company information into AI tools, so be sure to think about your own privacy policy.
